Vehicle taxation in Romania: how to make a long story short

A question for which the government concerned asked the Court of Justice, pursuant to article 16, paragraph 3 of the statute of the Court of Justice, to sit in a Grand Chamber for a national litigation concerning the compatibility with article 110 TFEU of an environmental taxation system on motor vehicles, a request of statute of limitation for the effectiveness of the decree. The classical ingredients of Romanian litigation are here easily recognisable as it has been recurring since the adoption in April 2008 of the Ordonan e de Urgen a Guvernului (OUG 50/2008), establishing a tax on motor vehicle pollution, triggered upon the first registration of the vehicle in the Romanian territory.
